The monolithic garage slab serves as both the foundation and floor for the construction. This type of construction is typically used for small, detached garages. It must rest on a compacted and stable fill. The perimeter of this slab is usually 18-24 inches thick and reinforced with at least two continuous steel rods. The center of the slab is generally 6-8 inches thick. A heavy-duty mesh is also inserted beneath the slab’s surface before the concrete is poured. Additionally, it is possible to insulate the underside and perimeter of the structure with high-density rigid insulation.
