During the drying process of concrete, shrinkage cracks may appear. Normally, these cracks evolve very little over time. However, when dealing with larger cracks where a pencil can be inserted, the causes may be more specific. It could be due to pyrite, an abnormal property of the stone used in or beneath the concrete that causes the concrete structure to expand over time. It might also result from a lack of compaction or granular material beneath the concrete slab.<\/p>\n

In both cases, the only remedy is to break up the slab, remove the material, and replace it with compacted fill according to industry standards. We can then pour a new slab, adding, if necessary, metal mesh or fibers to the concrete.<\/p>\n
