The foundation supports the entire house and its occupants. When designing it, it must account for potential overloads, such as snow. The installation of brick or stone siding should also be considered during the design stage of the foundation. Although the Building Code does not mandate the use of rebar in foundation walls, it is strongly advised.<\/p>\n

The foundations are cast in reusable wooden forms designed for this purpose. The frames (sub-frames) for windows and exterior doors are installed during the assembly of the formwork. Prefabricated windows can also be inserted into the forms according to the plan. The concrete must be poured continuously without interruption. Air pockets must be eliminated during the pour, and the concrete must be directed under door and window frames.<\/p>\n

In cold weather, freshly poured foundations must be protected against frost with insulating blankets. Additives can also be used to accelerate the concrete curing process. In very hot weather, concrete should be allowed to cure as slowly as possible.<\/p>\n
